Schemes

The MRIC has several schemes that cater for the needs of its stakeholders. Since the transformation of the MRC into the MRIC in September 2019, the focus has been on Special Call for Proposals targeted at specific priority areas based on national priorities. Details of the different schemes are as per below.

1. National SME Incubator Scheme (NSIS)

Accompanying your business idea in a conducive ecosystem

The NSIS aims at encouraging the creation of Innovative businesses for the socio-economic benefit of the Republic of Mauritius through a nurturing and training process in a conducive environment provided by Accredited Incubators driven by the private sector. The Accredited Incubators select, coach and mentor innovative business start-ups as early as the idea stage.

2. Proof of Concept Scheme (PCS)

The aim of the PCS is to assist innovators in advancing their research outputs and ideas with a view to developing prototypes, establishing proof of concept and validating business cases.

3. Collaborative Research and Innovation Grant Scheme (CRIGS)

Promoting collaborative projects between private sector and research 

This scheme promotes innovative research projects undertaken through a collaboration between the private sector and research. The aim of any proposed project should be the development/improvement of products/processes or techniques.

4. Research and Innovation Bridges

The scheme promotes collaboration between stakeholders from Mauritius and Partner Countries (each consortium containing participants from two or more countries) to develop innovative, collaborative research and development projects with commercial potential.

5. Social Innovation Research Grant Scheme (SIRGS)

Bring Social Innovation to Life

This scheme supports proposals which combine action-research and a social innovation potential with tangible outcomes in social development research areas including but not limited to social integration of vulnerable groups, equal opportunities and environmental issues.

6. Pole of Innovation Grant Scheme (PoIGS)

The Pole of Innovation Grant Scheme aims to enhance the impact of Research and Innovation on the economic development of the Republic of Mauritius by promoting creation of innovative products/services and goods and spurring innovation through advanced research and partnerships among local institutions and/or companies and/or international stakeholders.

  7. Intellectual Property Promotion Scheme (IPPS)

Protect your Intellectual Property

This scheme seeks to boost creativity and innovation, through support towards applications made for the grant of Patents and registration of Industrial Designs.

  8. Rodrigues Research and Innovation Grant Scheme (RRIGS)

The RRIGS has been formulated to promote research and innovation in Rodrigues and to address the specificities of Rodrigues.

  9. Innovation Boost Grant (IBG)

Innovation Boost Grant

This Call for Proposals for the ‘Innovation Boost Grant’ is aimed at supporting short-term innovative projects in specific thematic areas.
The ultimate objective of any proposed project should be the development or improvement of products, processes or techniques that will benefit the economy or provide potential solutions to the identified national challenges.
